FHSWIN for Early versions of Windows.

This page allows you to download programs that are part of a more developed release of the Family History System, designed to operate in later Windows environment. This software has been prepared with Microsoft Visual Basic v4 as a "16 bit" application, which means that the programs will run under any version of Windows up to Windows 95, including Windows 3.x.

The initial installation of the software requires that many Visual Basic support files be installed along with the FHSWIN program. The downloadable file is in ZIP format and must be uncompressed to install the software on your hard drive.

FHSWINPK.ZIP - (08/07/09) - (3168 KB) - This ZIP file includes FHSWIN and the FHS and Visual Basic support files - This file must be uncompressed into a temporary directory. The SETUP program should then be run to install FHSWIN into its own directory. FHSWIN requires most of the same configuration files that are used by the Sept 97 DOS version of FHS (which, itself, will run under Windows up to WinXP). If you have made changes to those files in the FAMILY directory you may copy them to the directory in which FHSWIN has been installed so that those changes will be picked up by FHSWIN.

Please be aware that these files represent a preliminary version of the software which has been subjected to very limited testing. You should always back up your family file before updating the file with this version of the software.

You should only use this software if you wish to try the programs in a pre-Win95 environment. If you are using a version of Windows later then Win95 you should use the 32-bit version of FHS for Windows.
