German Language Files for FHS

A Family History System user in Switzerland, Kurt Aerne, has used the customization features of the Sept 97 update of FHS to create a set of language files that convert all screen displays and messages to the German Language and provide German report headings and field labels.

Mr. Aerne had also created German language versions of FHS for prior updates, but in those cases it was necessary for him to modify the source programs to produce a dedicated German version of the software. With the current update, it is possible to have a German user interface and produce reports in German or in English (using the standard report definition file). Further, English speaking users can continue to use the standard language files for screen displays and messages, but take advantage of the German report definition file to produce reports for German speaking relatives or acquaintances.
