FHSUPDT - File Update Program (former FAMILY.EXE)
- Shows Dataset Record Counts, Date of Last Update instead of dataset names for components of Family File (NAM,ADR,OTH)
- Uses Family File Setups to switch Family File
- New Family File Summary Report, shows record counts
- New fields for noting changed records
- Two "change" bits in Name record - one indicating that the name record was changed, the other indicating that the "extended record", including subordinate Address, comment, event, etc. records has been changed
- Date field in Header record indicating date that all change bits were turned off - This date appears in the Main Option viewing area of this program
- Option F6 of Main Option viewing area resets all change bits and updates Reset DATE
- Search Option can locate records with Change bit set
- Relationship Calculator

- Value of "Y" for CHANGE will locate Name records that have changed (since bit was last reset);
- Value of "A" for CHANGE will locate Name records whose Extended Information Record has changed
- Can Page Backward & Forward through Search List
- New Search Results Report option
- If individual is selected from Search List,
- "ESC" from Name Record will return to Search List, even if it has been erased from screen (within Name Record viewing area, PGUP/PGDN will no longer move backward/forward through active search list)
- "ESC" from Search List always returns to Search Options viewing area, even if it has been erased from screen Search Results (a list of ID's) can be saved in a SELECT.WRK fiel for later processing by this or other programs (e.g. could be used to print group reports for all ID's that have a change indicator set)
- "Search" list can be read from a SELECT.WRK file. (This allows passing lists of ID's from other pgroams to the file update program...for example, the list of ID's that have had reported errors in the Pointer or Data validation program can be passed to the update program through a SELECT.WRK file.)
- Child List
- Can Page Backward & Forward through Child List
- If child is selected for display, "ESC" from name record viewing area will return to child list, even if it has been erased from screen (within Name record viewing area, CTRL+PGUP/PGDN will no longer move backward/forward through active child selection list)
- "ESC" from child list will always return to viewing area that generated child list: Name record, marriage record, or Parent viewing area, even if the viewing area has previously been erased from the screen
- Can rearrange sequence of children in Child List - will update pointers in Name File that sequence children; depending upon the source of child list:
- If name record, only will resequence among children under that name
- If marriage record, will resequence for each spouse, but only among children parented by both
- If parents, will resequence for each parent, but only with respect to children parented by both
- New children (or children whose birth date is changed) will be placed before first child (in rearranged sequence) whose birth date is later than its own, just as before;
- manual rearrangement may have to be done again to properly sequence the child
- Comments
- Can Page Forward & Backward thru Comments
- F2 INSERT only adds 1 line at time; can add Blank Lines at beginning
- "ESC" commits changes and returns to source viewing area
- F3 DELETE is followed by prompt for deleting line
- New Event Record
- Event Type is selected from user maintained table, includes: Birth, Baptism, Death, Burial
- Information for each event includes: Importance (value 0-255), Date, full character date status field, place (still 22 characters), Comments
- Sequence of events under name record is maintained manually
- Report programs will use event records as follows: if birth date is not in name record, will look for first Birth/Baptism event; if Baptism date, then date status field will be given value "+" in report if death date is not in name record, will look for first Death/Burial event; if Burial event, then date status field will be given value "+" in report
- General:
- When updating viewing areas, cursor can be moved freely with up/down/right/left cursor keys
- Do not need to enter date/time edit characters, program automatically skips over them
- There is a "Numeric" entry routine for ID numbers - eliminates previous value when entering numbers Options at bottom of viewing area will be hilited if there are existing records to be processed (e.g. children, spouse, other, comments)
- More protection against accidentally re-initialising a family file
- Simplified process for adding/changing marriage records
- Can page backward/forward thru marriage records, address records, & misc record types
- If a report is printed to a file, after the "printing" is complete, you will be asked if you want to "View" the report file. If you reply "Y" then you will be given the opportunity to enter the command that should be used to view the file (You may use the DOS Edit program, or a browing utility shuch as the shareware LIST program...the default "viewing" utility is one of the configuration parameters that may be set in F3-B)
