06/17/2019 - Multiple changes relating to "Summary Reports"

This update adds new reports that extend the function of the previous Ancestor and Descendant Summary reports. Those reports provided a way to present information about family records grouped by relationship...that is, being on the same level of Ancestry from an individual or on the same level of Descendancy from an individual. Information presented includes the counts of Males, Females, Marriages and Deaths, ranges of Birth Dates, Marriage Dates and Dates of Death, and numbers of Birth, Marriage or Death places that have been recorded for persons in those groups. These were originally provided as a way to evaluate the extent and completeness of information in a family file.

These groupings were basically "Generation" groupings for those that are separated by the same number of Parent/Child relations from a given individual. It seemed that another way of "Generation" grouping might be for those who are in the same "Relative Generation Level" with respect to an individual...that is, looking at a Relationship Chart, these would be all those on a horizontal line at a RGL level, grouping parents with their siblings (Aunts, Uncles) and their cousins, etc. That is the purpose of a new "RSUM" report, which is grouped with the previous "ASUM" and "DSUM" reports under a new Report Grouping, "Summary/Generations" under the Main Menu "Reports/Charts" option.

Still another type of "Generational Grouping", not based upon relationships, would be a "Calendrical" grouping of individuals with birth dates that are close together. That is the purpose of a new "YSUM" report (or "Decades" Generation summary report) that reports similar summary information for individuals whose birth date falls within the same "Decade". Given a starting year, the "YSUM" report will report on individuals born within any of the following 100 years, grouped by Decade. The individuals drawn from for the report are those SELECTed by the FHS Search/Select program. They could be biologically related from an Ancestor/Descendant/Relative WRK file or, perhaps, all those with Surnames that sound like "BROWN".

Each of these Summary Reports can be produced in either "Horizontal" or "Vertical" format. In "Horizontal Format", the data items are presented in columns and the generations extend down the report. In "Vertical Format", the data items are listed on the left of the report and the generations extend across the format in columns.

In addition to the new reports, there are some new types of information to include. If the new "Show Lo/High Ages" option is selected, the youngest and oldest "age at death" is reported for those born in each decade (under headings "LAOD" and "HAOD").

Now, some things that are not new, but perhaps forgotten, are options of the Ancestor and Descendant Summary reports.

The "Count "Head" of Family Line" option of the Ancestor Summary Report requests a count of the ancestors (in each generation) that have neither a Father or Mother recorded. The count appears under the heading "NOP" (No Parent) in the report. These are ones that might be under consideration for doing research to extend that family line. In addition, if the Ancestor Summary is in "Horizontal Format" and the "List Heads of Family Lines" option is chosen, information about those "terminal ancestors" will be provided before the Totals for the generation are printed.

The "Show Count of Duplicates option of both Ancestor and Descendant summary reports requests counting the number of Ancestors/Descendants in each generation that appear again in any level of the report. These represent "intersections" of family lines. The number found is shown in the "Dup" Column (or "Duplicate ID's" row) of the report. If there are duplicates, there are "ADUP" and "DDUP" reports for showing information about the duplicate entries. These reports are provided as "optional" reports to the "ASUM" and "DSUM" reports. If you click on the "Report:" drop down list item where "ASUM" or "DSUM" appears in the display for producing the report, you will be presented with a list of other reports produced by the same program, using the same WRK file. For "ASUM" the alternate repors are "ARPT", the standard Ancestor Report, and "ADUP", the Duplicate Ancestor report. The new "DSUM" report operates the same way. (See sample "DSUM" and "DDUP" reports.)

Finally, the "Relationship Chart" that has previously been selectable as a "Summary/Relationship/Relative" Report option (which is now more appropriate for the new "RSUM" report) is now accessible as a "RELS" report in 2 ways. You can choose it as a "Summary/Relationships" report or as a "Charts/Relationship Table" option.

The documentation in "FHSWIN-Help" has not yet been updated but will be "soon".
