The Message Definition File, FHSMSGS.MDF (or PUBMSGS.MDF in the public version) contains the definitions for all program messages. The messages are stored in groups identified by a four character group ID. There is one group for each FHS program (the table ID is the last 4 characters of the program name) and another group, XXXX, containing messages that are used by multiple programs.

Program option F3-B-F4-3 allows you to print a list of the messages and customize the text of the messages. For many messages, you can also customize the default response...that is, the response that will be assumed if you simply tap the space bar or press the Enter key as a response to the message.
