4PRINT Program

This utility allows you to print ASCII files to an HP Laserjet Deskjet or compatible printer in landscape format (the 8 1/2" edges of the paper are at the sides). Documents which have line lengths of up to 80 characters may be printed with 2 pages on each side of the paper using the compressed line printer font that is built into the Laserjet printer. Wider documents, up to 110 character lines, may be similarly printed with a tiny but readable font provided with the 4PRINT utility. That same TINY font can be used to print documents with line lengths up to 230 characters with one page on each side of the paper. This is particularly suited for printing FHS descendant charts, produced by Main Menu selection F3-C-2. Printing on both sides of the paper is accomplished by first printing the fronts of all the pages and then printing the backs.

There is now an FHS option, Main Menu selection F3-4 (it doesn't actually appear on the Main Menu), which provides an interface to the 4PRINT utility for printing FHS reports that have been previously "printed" to a file. The operation of this option is documented in an addendum to the manual for the basic set of programs.
